I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make a dashed line, not fill itself in.
Anyone find a workaround?

Select dashed line.
Object > Flatten Transparency (Slide all the way to Vector)
Do what you like with the path.

click on the dashed checkbox.
I never understood why is it so difficult for illy to do a dotted line.- it's not hard, set it to round ends and the dash to 0pt
monospaced - I know that, but I can+t figure out why can't I dropdown select dashed / dotted.ESKEMA

not fill itself in.. ?
between dashes? or teh object fill?
edit dash/gap values, or fill object none?

what fyoucher said; use expand transparency, not expand stroke
- inkpink0
lemme rephrase:
what fyoucher said; use expand transparency, not path>outlinestroke
- Or just simply:
Object > Expand
check strokemonospaced - yes but as rodz is prolly finding. sometimes it doesn't work and you have to use the transparency flatten.inkpink
- mono. this actually does not work. I think it has something to do with bringing in a file from CS3 to CS4.rodzilla
- well, sorry, it works for me good luck man!monospaced

I may be stupid but I can't fucking understand what is being asked here.

"not fill itself in" makes it sound like you don't know how to make a dashed line, period.
