hi,
I have relocated from The Old World to Boston (MA). I was wondering what are more or less the going rates for an experienced interaction designer in the US.
It is just to get an idea.
cheers,

Wasn't there a big study on location and pay in the US? I think it was done about a year or two ago...

It's really based on your portfolio, not your experience. Other factors like location and who you're working for also play a big part. In Philly, some people charge $60 - $80 per hour. In NYC, those same folks may be charging twice as much or more per hour. I would imagine Boston being somewhat inline with Philly rates (or even lower).

thanks guys!

In Boston, $100 for 10 webpages. That should include free links.
$25 for Splash page with Flash.
Any other cities you are interested in? I can come up with the rates for you.

it depends who you working for. some won't pay more then 30 bucks /hr, no matter where you are.
good luck, thought.

are you talking about interaction designer or interactive designer...those are two different things...people mix the two up...it sucks.

I can pay you in Buttons.

These rates seem low to me. If you're any good and have more than a few years experience under your belt, I don't see why you can't charge around $80/hr, possibly up to $150 depending on the client and the project. Living in Boston ain't cheap, and you need to be able to make a living.

You have to figure that as a freelancer, even if you're moderately successful it's unlikely more than 60% of your time will be billable. Take that into consideration when setting your rate.

FYI: mainland Western Europe, a mid-sized new media agency will bill a client around 80-100 Euros per hour for a designer.
