Cheers everyone for the comments,
I am going to look into making the background white, and photographing my work - is there any tutorials on how to photograph my work successfully - as I'm a complete amateur with photography - and don't want to get the work shot professionally as it's only a personal portfolio and not meant to be commercial.
With the Gift Voucher artwork - a lot of haters here! But I'm trying to get into designing for music venues, club promotion etc and that's the only piece in my portfolio that's remotely non-corporate :(
Also will look at that Jquery Detritrus, cheers!
- for photographing, natural light would be best. You don't want glare from lights.
And use a tripod. :)?villars

Just one thing needed usability-wise:
You need Next and Previous buttons.
The slideshow is nice, but I wouldn't sit there and watch the whole way through. Eventually you're going to want to navigate. And you don't want to look at the pieces and then shift your attention to your mouse position to get the next piece. You want to have your hand still near the next button so you can focus on the work.

i like it. clean, quick, easy. As mentioned previously, selecting what work to showcase is probably the biggest challenge going forward.

pss. Add some nav (left, right) to your slider. I noticed some work but when I wanted more it slid over. I could not go back, caused some frustration.
