i used to have a helmet that was just a polystyrene piece of crap so i painted it like a rasta coloured laybug, stuck 2 pingpong balls in for eyes and cycled to school like that every day.
one of the balls eventually fell out so i filled the hole i'd agauged with red/b;lack paint and mad e a splatter down the side.
I got a lot of stares.

thanks to the US Socialist government poking there heads into our personal business all helmets sold here have to pass the same safety tests. So that $20 helmet you bought at Wal-Mart will protect you just as good as that $175 one you bought at the custom bike shop.
- cos ensuring customer safety is clearly socialist and evil.kpl
- sarcasm is lost on somefooler2
- $20 helmet probably won't fit well, so it won't protect as well. So, I assumed you're wrong the whole way through. my bad.kpl
- plus that $20 is probably made in some socialist country with lead paint and toxic plastic that leaches into their water supply.johndiggity

"Cyclists who wear protective helmets are more likely to be knocked down by passing vehicles, new research from Bath University suggests."

This review is what sold me on a Bern helmet:
http://www.1lesscar.com/reviews/…"After crashing (again) a couple weeks ago and slamming the back of my head on the pavement, I decided that my accident prone self is getting too old to keep abusing my melon like that."
...
"Before Bern came along, I never really liked the style of the majority of bicycle helmets. Even though I've tried to live a function before fashion lifestyle, I just couldn't do it. Bern totally changed that for me- if you're anything like me, I urge you to check out Bern's site and the wide variety of helmets available."
...
"Overall, I love this helmet and highly recommend it- it's super comfy, and a helmet is a wise choice no matter what age you are. Over the years I've managed to bash my head in quite a few times one way or another, and somehow I hit my head on something- pretty much on a daily basis... I'm very lucky that I haven't done any permanent damage (I had a brain scan last year just to make sure...thanks to state insurance!), but now that I'm riding with a Brentwood, I feel pretty protected- at least up top, and that's where it counts the most!!! You really can't do much if you're brain dead- think about that...think about Bern."
