Does anyone know if graffiti writers consider Banksy a sell out or do they respect him?

most traditional writers have zero respect for street artists. that said, alot of traditional writers are jagoffs. But in terms of jagoff : talent ratio, street artists have them beat.
- that's quite a few sweeping generalizations in two sentences. well done.scrameone

Agree with ThePublics. I've found writers are a funny bunch. Almost stuck in their ways and styles. Their loyalty to their style and hate of other styles took me by surprise, I thought they wouldn't give a fuck.
Read the comments about the Robbo vs Banksy image. That should give you a better idea of how they feel.

Yeah I get the feeling most traditional writers don't respect the street artists. I heard an interview from Kathy Grayson of Deitch Projects http://www.artreview.com/profile…
- she seems to be a strong backer of the traditionalists... some good points.... twist or shepard?payton

Thats just some drama bullshit to get everyone aroused. BAnksy vs. RObbo yeah... fuck that. What I want to know is why are traditional artists such haters? Hip-hop was about uniting to make the world better and it worked then died. The greatest cultural uprise for who the fuck knows how long and now these ego's clash and fuck it all up. Hope?

the Banksy piece was shit,

To me, he's kinda' like a modern day super hero, (a la Kick Ass): He maintains his anonymity while getting up all over the planet, and not just meaningless shit, but conceptual, politically and socially aware work, http://bit.ly/19GNJd Whats selling out about that?
Anyone who's mad because people with money recognize Banksy's artistry too are probably envious and wish they had a 0.01% of that recognition.
My 2¢: The world needs more Banksy's.
The whole Banksy Vs Robbo thing was some personal shit between the two of em, and doesn't really have anything to do with selling out. I mean, someone could start a thread about the differences between street art and graffiti... I found this article about it interesting:: http://www.fatcap.com/article/ba…
- I just sawDavid Choe's movie and it was great... http://www.youtube.c…NathanNice

At this point everybody is just playing second-fiddle to BNE anyways.

Not trying worship the man just giving props and looking for answers within the graffiti vs. street artists argument along with educating others that Banksy came from both.
IMAGINE
Imagine! Imagine a city Where Graffiti Wasn’t Illegal a City Where Everybody Could Draw Wherever They liked. Where Every Street was Awash With a Million Colors and little Phrases. Where Standing at a bus stop was never Boring. A City That felt like a Living Breathing Thing Which Belonged to Everybody, Not Just the estate agents and Barons Of big Business. Imagine a city Like that and stop Leaning against The Wall... ITS WET!!!!- Banksy
