Quick question... I've got a client who wants a website with a form to obtain peoples card details, email them to him so that he can process the payment his end. Is this legal?

not sure if it's illegal, but it definitely not safe.

it's certainly not safe...

that was probably ok in 1991. I'd try to do this via a proper gateway solution such as world pay etc.
Otherwise you are opening your self up to a world of pain :)

you should consult the person who is handling the transactions.

I doubt it's 'illegal'. It's possibly disallowed by some payment gateways.
Legally speaking, it's no different to receiving CC details over a phone and entering them in to a machine manually - a 'customer not there' transaction, or something?
Technically speaking, it's a very bad idea.

Find out what bank he is with, they should have a payment gateway system you can use. May cost a developer a few hours to get something up and working for you.

That's what I figured. I don't think I would trust any site asking for my details. I've suggested just using paypal link, there's no budget for implementing anything else. He's against using it though.
I'll get him to check about the payment gateway.

- This would be my preference as there's no budget for any of this bit, it's a client add onGrassnutt

its a good way if your client doesn't want to make money. No one in their right mind would agree to that.

Have them forward the details onto you as well? You could make some serious money here.
It's a victimless crime as it's over the internet.
