i used to live in ny like 7 years ago, and every time i go visit now, the city is different.
if youre going to new york for a visit you cant count on what you saw there on your last trip cause it might not be there.
unless is like an urban outfitters store or something like that, or diesel. :P

Norm's Sound and Vision is right next to Cooper Union in the east village, their records are in the basement. They might have rare stuff by the counter down there, I don't know because I don't look for those.
Second Hand Rose is on 12th and Broadway and they've got a good selection, they have some pretty rare stuff. He gets some high profile customers though and isn't afraid to price accordingly.
- SHR has been around for a while... dunno about Norm's.ismith

Even Turntable Lab carries some collectibles for sale on their walls.

i usually stick to Williamsburg area. (mostly Academy and SoundFix, sometimes Earwax or Permanent if I'm down there). In the city I go to Academy on 18th because it's around the block from work, and then the West Village stores. (Bleecker Bobs, Generation, Bleecker St and the others around there).

but hey.... aren't these shops picked over, especially by the williamsburp hipsteers...... maybe the best place to find rare vinyl is somwhere in rural Georgia or whatever..... or some crazy collector's widow's estate sale...
- very true, much better record shopping in the detroit area.Douglas

Not sure if its around any more, but The Thing in greenpoint, on manhattan ave. was a cratedigger dream. I found all sorts of gems down in that crazy bassment.

This is The Thing. The place is legendary.
