Exporting PDF from indesign. The PDF will not show the é character, although it is there because when using the speak document function it is pronounced. Anyone know a fix? Been fine until today!

Different font or output settings? Random check box?

Agree with monospaced, it's the font. Switch the font a few times with other ones to test it out.

Not just the font. I've dealt with this exact problem. To fix it make a pdf the old fashioned way. Print to postscript open up distiller and create z pdf.

I had this issue when I was doing all these Croatian things, with their wacky character encodings. anyway, for me it was an issue of font subsetting, turning it off (under the advanced tab) always fixed it. of course, it makes the file size a bit larger.
regarding the speak document function- text is stored as integers mapped to a character encoding, like ansi, macroman, etc.. even if there are no glyphs to display, your "text" will be in the document.
- aaaah...the "random check box" I was referring tomonospaced
