Any tips and toughts? I didn't go to school in the U.S and I feel it's super hard to get contacts (specially here in nyc). I've been looking for a jr. position for a while and it's been really frustrating... I've tried a million things, and even though I love what I do and I'm super proactive, this search it's becoming endlesss!!!!

go to aquent or creative circle or one of the other staffing/recruiting places and take any placements they have to get in the door and get some real experience.
- thanks :)bellera
- you will probably be doing a lot of production work that sucks, but you will get an opportunity to do more if you find a good place.johndiggity
- place. just keep your options open.johndiggity

Also, as supplement to johndiggity's comment - try and get in at a SMALL place. The smaller the better. Youll lack the bigger paycheck/benefits that a larger company can offer - and you'll LIKELY work more than the 9-5 (they REALLY like it when you do) BUT - I did this as an intern at a place once and I ended up getting to be integral in the concepting phase of some work that went on to win quite a few awards and really BUILD my portfolio.
Eat shit and prosper young one.
- and by "reall like it when you do" I mean, they EXPECT it of you...identity
- haha, that's actually what I'm trying to get!. Do you know any nice small studios in nyc? to broaden my search? thanks for you advice!bellera
- let me look into it, your work is quite good for being a recent graduate. I'll see what I can doidentity
- Thank you!! :)bellera

keep at it. your work is solid.
the fact that you didn't go to school here shouldn't matter...i enjoy your website, but in terms of looking at the work, it is a bit challenging while browsing a lot of portfolios every day. you can keep it as is, but it might be helpful to see a direct link to a page full of samples.
what places are you searching for work? send out a nice, short, personal email to the contact/job address to all companies you like (magazines, fashion, branding, motion design) anywhere you see you're work fitting in. i'd only go with aquent/ccircle after you've tried EVERYTHING else. i think you'll be able to do it.

Get in with creative recruiters. Have them ping pong you from agency to agency doing production work. When they loose their usefulness to you, you're in the door.

if you were in Tampa....I'd give you a shot- our company is searching for an assistant for me- all Im looking for is someone with an eye for design, knows the programs and has seen a dieline before-

The economy is tough right now...a lot of people aren't hiring, that could be the problem...if you've got some money in the bank, i'll try interning and seeing where that goes, hopefully to a junior position. seen it happen before.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
- how can you be thinking of fish at a time like thisscarabin

To attract good fortune, spend a new penny on an old friend, share an old pleasure with a new friend and lift up the heart of a true friend by writing his name on the wings of a dragon.

You have to cook some cachapas to your co-workers :)

Agree. Go with the headhunters. It's a great way to get your foot in the door. Also with that you can try different places. Don't say no to anything. Just try things and that will lead to meeting people, which will lead to work.
The economy is finally picking up. I am getting lots of calls. So keep your head up. And call the headhunters on Monday.
