My only comment is that the Nikon has a larger physical sensor than the Canon. Knock the image size back a step from the 12.9mp max and you can get some very nice quality pics.

"nikon is usually sharper" is a false statement. sharpness depends so greatly on too many factors - lens choice, lens calibration, steadiness of the photographer - that a blanket statement favoring one top manufacturer over another is just wrong.
