Last night dispatches saw ex-MPs asking up to £5K a day for personal consultancy. Nice work if you can get it.
Actually although they sounded like idiots I don't really see what was wrong with selling your experience, expertise and contacts. That's what most people do in business.
Funny though our MPs are looking more corrupt day by day.

it was £3k per hour!
- You Sure?! pretty sure it was daybabaganush
- radio4 said per hour!trooperbill
- I thought it was day.lukus_W
- It was daily rates.
3k p/h makes half a million a month. I doubt you get this kind of money even being an MP

It's disgusting. In any other industry they would face an imediate tribunal and possible criminal proceedings. Fucks me right off.

the prob is theyre EX politicians, so not really governed by anything.

" In any other industry they would face an imediate tribunal and possible criminal proceedings."
babaganush, would they? I don't think that's true. I think they were talking about their realm of influence and in many cases overstating it. But essentially there's no rule to say you can't sell a service which is about who you know and how you can influence those people.
I agree it's not what you expect your elected MP or minister to be doing but that's them for you.

I saw that too - shocking.
To be fair, I think there are a lot of industries where people get paid a lot for next to nothing -> but this was shameful.
Democracy for sale.

Was imagining a peep-show style narrative while they were talking:
"Fuck, 5k is a lot .. but this is yr one shot at the big-time - go on say it .. 5k, 5k! 5k!! ..... oh fuck, you've said it .. but wait! I think she's bought it - hasn't batted a fucking eyelid - score!"
- lol thats what goes through my mind when i pitchtrooperbill

johnnnyh, I believe you are right. However I'm not sure to what extent they have left parliament as in the documentary last night it was stated to the effect that no politician could use influence to elicit commercial gain or words to that effect.
So I guess it depends upon the extent to which they have left parliament. I belive certainly the Luton MP is still definitely a member (who is also 'ill and cannot answer calls from her constituency)...surely this is first and foremost fraud of the highest nature as it concerns fraud to the taxpayer and also fraud towards the rules of parliament.
It's absolute bullshit.
- Think they've been suspended now.lukus_W
- crazy...when the shit hits the fan and the police are called in - they'll pull out some white paper like they did on the expenses scandalbabaganush
- scandal. Mask a scandal with another scandalbabaganush

Yes, the she's off sick line was particularly awful and she should be struck off or whatever they do to them.
I wonder how much the program will affect their ability to sell their influence in the future. Would you want one of them on your board and would you pay them good money? I noticed Tesco and Mandleson denying everything to do with Byers at the moment.
- yeah, you'd hope that in branding terms, being associated with these snakes would be suicidebabaganush

I'm not too sure where this all stand in the political world of things. If there ex-MP then what the problem, there not working for any political party, so they should be allowed to sale themselves. or am I just talking bollocks?
- I think it links to multiple jobs and people, becoming politicians as a stepping stone to do this...babaganush

Hey guys, if that's the rate for an EX-MP... can anybody guess how much are the actual MPs making from deals with companies such as network rails, or the people who built T5 in Heathrow?
... or the 3bn epic fail of the ID cards?
I guess the list is long. But hey, British politicians are mostly honest, aye?
