Just a quick one. A group of us in London are taking part in worthy competition this weekend which is centered around producing a web and mobile app.
We're short of an interface designer and really need one. So if you're free this weekend and willing to throw some moves our way then we really could use you on-board for the 48 hour experiment.
Maybe not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure, but an opportunity none-the-less.

What's the pay?

What's the competition?

Must we be in London or can we do on an other continent.. ?

What's the prize?

'Opportunity' is never a good term, in my opinion.

Sorry folks, forgot the link: http://jailbrake.org
As you might have guessed, this is a non-profit venture. And as always, the participant will get some decent exposure from it...
I'm afraid everyone would need to be in the same room so it's only open to Londoner I'm afraid. Sorry about that. I didn't make the rules ;o)

So, you're looking for someone to work for absolutely no pay, and, if and when the idea is chosen there is no prize except for decent exposure? Can they prove this exposure? What kind of PR would be out there for the winners? Sounds like some buuullllllshit to me.

- It's vocational networking, not that a spitefully literal drone like yourself would understand, monospaced.detritus

"Do you work with young people and know all about how the youth justice system works? Have you seen restorative justice in action? Have you worked to help resettle young ex-offenders"
No.

hutchhouse - Might help if you provide a bit more info... ie. Who is your team? Are you working on a preselected idea or is it a first come first serve jobby with the 6 on the website? Are you expecting two all-nighters?
- lukus_W0
Also, if your team's idea is chosen, will the interface designer you involve have a stake in future developments? How do the rest of your team members know each other?
It would be a bit unfair to expect someone to devote time and expertise without being able to fully benefit from a positive outcome. It sounds like this weekend is about starting projects that will eventually turn into commercial ventures.

Hi all.
The 'team' will be the same team that did the http://www.24hour-startup.com. A nice bunch based in Piccadilly. We're all marketing, design and development folks who share office space and collaborate on stuff.
The 24hourstartup experiment was a few months ago now but similar to this. The end product was sold and the profits distributed evenly amongst the contributors. Whilst this is a charity venture and no guarantee of an eventual windfall, it can't be ruled out.
I was supposed to be doing this myself (as I was the designer involved in the 24hourstartup stuff) but something's come up and I have to leave London this weekend.
I'm trying to find a replacement for myself and not just trying my luck at some free labour.
- Is the project decided or could be any one of those 6 ideas?zray

Also:
"Jailbrake is all about matching great ideas with the people they need to grow. Now we’ve got our six back-of-the-envelope ideas brimming with potential, we’re looking for people who are interested in helping make them a reality who we can invite along to the Jailbrake weekend to help make them happen."

Hi All,
I'm in the team with Mr. Hutch. (Doing a few ideas, strategy, bits of copy and PRing whatever we do).
To clear a couple of things up:
- The commitment is for a couple of hours Friday night to take the brief, plus 2 full days at "normal hours" Sat & Sun. Will we work harder if we have to... probably!
- Anyone who joins our team, and still wishes to be involved if we win and it gets taken further will be invited to take their part with the rest of us. i.e. sharing in any income etc.
- As for the likelihood of "exposure" etc, I think - if we win - it could be great; in the web tech startup bubble. Jailbrake is run by SICamp, who have very close ties to Nesta... and if you want to get into the web startup game at any point, then they're guys you'll really want to know, as they know every VC out there. Are you going to get on the front of NMA or Creative Review as a result? Unlikely.
- Rest of the info should be on the link... but feel free to ask away here too.

Feck... forgot, also looks like we're being lined up for 1 of 2 projects:
- FLIP
- Service SignPosterWe have opportunity to state a preference ASAP... so if you join the team you can chuck your feelings into the mix!

Christ people why do all have to be so negative, acting like prissy prima-donnas. It sounds to me like this is just supposed to be a bit of fun, working in a new environment with some new people, on something that could potentially be quite cool.
It strikes me that anyone bitching about getting ripped off or not getting paid, isn't getting paid to much in the first place - get real people your ideas are unlikely to be worth much anyway.
At least this sounds worthwhile.
- lukus_W0
@repedixon;
It sounds like a cool project, but the initial post didn't include any of the later information which backed this fact up.
There are so many people who are out to rip other people off, and who are out for a free lunch. I don't think it's surprising that people have a healthy bit of skepticism. No one wants to be taken as a fool.

Jailbrake turned out to be a great success at the weekend. Read more about it here: http://jailbrake.org/jailbrake-d…
A big thanks to our interface designer who turned up on the day and did a Stirling job :o)
