So I got this very acrimonious letter from AGL energy today saying they were going to turn off "any associated services linked to your account number."

Turns out I'd paid the full amount onto my gas account instead of my electricity even though they use the same account details..meaning it gas was essentially credited with $350. I'd done this nearly a month ago the day the bill came too.

I can't believe that there is no checks in place on things like this..like who the hell pre-pays their energy bills! Shouldn't they be telling people if there is a credit as this is odd? I just find it hard to believe they can get heavy handed so easily without even checking. I've been with them for 3 years and never missed a single bill. Just goes to show how hawkish you have to be with these companies - I could gone ahead and paid the account again and they'd of said nothing.

    Anyone else had similar experiences?

the thing is that the account number is probably the same but the reference number (or whatever it's called) is the different code.

effectively you paid the wrong account but are in luck that it credited your own other account. if you do the same thing to a wrong personal bank account the bank can't actually chase the money back so whoever the account belongs to either gives the money back or you lose the money.

so at least you've not leant the hard way to be a cross-eyed cunt when online banking.
