Hello,
Do you know of a simple and effective php script for searching in a website.
One that can be implemented by some one that is not a php programmer!
One that you recommend and have used and works well
Many thanks.

this is not as easy as dropping in a form parsing script, you'd need something that spiders the database/flat files that you can query against...
why not link your search form to google and use the inurl: or site: filter and get search results via google.

You can also use Google custom search like this: http://www.surfaceshawaii.com/su…
Super easy to setup

Thanks, the ads in that search engine might be something some clients might not like.
I looked at the source code of zeldman.com to see try work out what script he used and found http://www.atomz.com/
Has anyone used it?

I installed this on a client site
http://www.sphider.eu/
You need some php skill to customize it.

Atomz is nice, but way overpriced and last time I checked they were really pushing upmarket. If you want a similar service try Freefind.com.
If you pay even the basic subscription you get it ad free and you can use your own custom template hosted by them, in the same fashion as Atomz does.
Just try to look beyond their janky site that hasn't been updated in a decade.

You can get Google Custom search without ads for around $100 per year I think

you can set up google custom search with no ads for free, not sure why that site up there has ads, but all that i've set up don't work that way, as long as you're searching within your own domain

note that this requires a windows box in your office or house to run the spider re-indexing.. but it's very, very easy to setup and the search script itself works on PHP, ASP and cgi-bin hosts with about 1 hour of setup time, very templated... I used the $100 version for 3 clients and it worked nicely.

@ETM what is the charge of Atomz?
In their website Atomz says:
"Atomz really is free.
We support ourselves through
text-based advertisements."
