Hi all,
I'm hopefully getting a new iMac at the weekend (27"), was wondering what the sound out of these things is like. I do have some harmon kardon speakers that I used for my old iMac, i've had these about 5 years now though.

My imac is about 3 years old, but if you've owned a mac, there is always plenty of treble. If you like to hear bass or more than just words hook up your speakers.

iMac speakers are good enough for casual listening. If you blast them too much, you will end up investing in a pair of speakers, because the stock speakers are shite for anything louder than calm listening over time.

I recommend a couple of speakers + subwoofer, I have a 24" inch iMac and to be honest the built-in ones sound like shit

It might not be the highest quality (I have a white 24"), but it does get loud enough to watch a movie from across the room. I recommend FILTERING for a speaker thread to find better audio for music.

Cheers for the advice, I'll see how it goes when it gets here, the harmon kardons output decent sound, its just a lot of cables, when the imac just has one.

I wonder why they don't make an added-cost option of good quality built-in speakers, so one wouldn't have to clutter up the desk with the after-market ones?
After all, these days most people's computer is their stereo too.
