Wanted to post a link to an idea my two sons - 11 & 8 have had - and that i'm trying to facilitate through facebook - short link below:

    http://bit.ly/boJQ65

Basically the whole story is online in the group info as to how they came up with the idea - but to cut the story short they are trying to get 1 million people to commit to donating 1 penny in the months of Jan, March, May etc.. and 1 pound in the months of Feb, April, June etc.. by joining the group

In for a penny - In for a pound - only when they reach 1 million users do they want to create the donation aspect of this ideas as at that point they then have the potential to make a massive difference to humanitarian causes around the world (Haiti etc...)

Imagine being able to be aprt of a groups that is able to donate 1 million + £'s every two months and at an individual cost of less than a couple of beers to each person involved.

Hope you can help and feel it a worthwhile cause to support.

Feel free to distribute the link and this message to other groups where you feel it may be appropriate - thanks again

So you don't have a specific cause this money is going towards? You just want to collect money?

the initial idea was from my sins who saw the Hati disaster and wanted a way to help - there idea was -

"Dad you know how you build websites and they make money for people - could we build something to help these children - who now have nothing?"

we sat down and thought of a way to facilitat where we can actually make a real difference - so the idea is to collect the donations of pennies and pounds once there are a million members - so in theory collecting £1 million every other month.

If the process takes off and people commit to the idea then a UK charity would be set up following the UK Charity Commision guidelines and be a legal entity - but the idea in principle is that each person donates £6.06 each year (6 months of pennies and 6 months of pounds) so a very insignificant amount individually but as a group a massive difference.

My boys expressed the wish to help any cause - non political or religious who needed it - examples would have been - the tsunami - new orleans - obviously haiti - to name a few.

I thought that for two boys of 8 and 11 its a pretty amazing thing to think about from watching the news - all i've done is start the ball rolling to try to facilitate this idea.

But with facebook having 250 million + active users it seemed the easiest way to reach a mass audience quickly - if the uk can get 300,000 users to knock simon cowell of number 1 then you would hope they could make something quite unique and charitable happen.

thanks for the responses though :)
