i mainly do logo work but have been contacted by a CD to take their photoshop file and clean it up in vector graphics (illustrator). i haven't seen the file yet, pending NDA discussions. Should i be thinking to price this as wrist work or as some aberration of branding work.
They are a small-mid tech co. If i were to do the brand build out, I'd price them between 5-10k. Not sure how to approach this problem.
also, they may want an identity style guide, built out for their usage. i haven't found guidelines for this yet so any advice is most welcome.
thanks in advance for any help.

photoshop file of what?
if you haven't done this type of thing before, or that often, i'd do it all at an hourly rate for each deliverable. however most designers that have done this type of stuff a lot just charge by the project.
- i haven't seen it yet but somebody's roughed out logo.MrAbominable
- i'll have to submit a flat fee bid, which i can base on hourly. Wanted to check up front.MrAbominable

how about charging by the hour?

no, you're not building a brand by tracing their photoshop file.
wrist work.

"no, you're not building a brand by tracing their photoshop file."
cool. just wanted to make sure that the translation wasn't considered some sort of editorial decision that that by going hourly for it that i wasn't severely shooting myself in the foot.

even if you were doing the logo creative and design, building a brand is much more.
if they request a usage guide, then you can requote for identity development or start billing them a higher hourly.
- i was a little careless with my language upfront. I meant Identity as subset of branding.MrAbominable
