The writing was on the wall when Disney made this announcement, but The Wrap is reporting that today the studio will be closing the New York and Los Angeles offices of Miramax Films and 80 people will lose their jobs.
The site says that six movies awaiting distribution, including Last Night, The Debt and The Tempest, will be shelved or get a tepid release.

I love the story on how they decided to form Miramax. As young boys the Weinsteins snuck into a foreign film house in Brooklyn hoping to see some T&A. Instead they saw "The 400 Blows" by Truffaut and fell in love with film.
- I can understand --"The 400 Blows" sounds like it might be a explicit movie.Mimio

Shit, I really hope "The Tempest" gets distribution before they fold, that's the new Julie Taymor flick (Titus, Frida, All Across the Universe).
- Sounds like all their films will. At least on DVD.Mimio
- The article said the films could be shelved, meaning no release at all.harlequino
