On 21 January Vimeo rolled out a new beta feature: HTML5 video. No Flash required! So if you're using Safari, FireFox, Chrome, etc. give it a spin : http://vimeo.com/blog:268
YouTube has done a similar thing (check the QBN filter). Meanwhile, Internet Explorer is the only major browser that does not support HTML5 video.
Why am I so excited about the video feature in HTML5 and its early adoption by some big video sites? Because I dislike Flash. And I dislike Internet Explorer. Vimeo and YouTube running a beta test of HTML5 video isn't going to rid the Web of IE or Flash. But it does make me smile.

@detritus Sorry I missed your comment from that earlier thread. (I had only looked for threads with "Vimeo" in the title.) I wanted to give Vimeo a little boost. I heard a lot of noise about YouTube doing HTML5, and I'm excited about that too, but the Vimeo deserves more credit than it receives. The vimeo team does good work.

HTML5 video still runs as slow as flash on netbooks and crappy computers.

interesting how you can copy paste the flv, mp4 URL into VLC and it plays these high quality videos very smoothly there on netbooks.

wtf. that's rad.

Vimeo is good, but almost completely useless if you want to use it for anything commercial.

fuck. i'm already tired of threads with HTML5 in the title. the next decade should be a blast on here.
