Anyone ever worked on a music app for the iPhone, or know if there are good resources out there on this? Just trying to get an idea of what sort of functionality is possible.

what do you mean- like something that plays music or... ?I don't get it
ipod, 4-track, drum machines, that new fender app

Yeah, all of the above basically. Just wondering if anyone has ever delved into it, and what technical limitations there are.

check out OpenAL, I think that's what most people use for multi-channel audio stuff on the iPhone. you can mix multiple sources and do some DSP stuff. as far as voice count, latencies, buffers, etc., I don't know any specifics there. I've just started a project with someone doing an audio app though, so I'll probably find out more soon.

I just installed iMaschine, http://www.native-instruments.co… it's very well rounded for just $1.99,
but I'd rather use iKaossilator, http://www.korg.com/ikaossilator… for $9.99 it's the most expensive app I've purchased, but I think it was well worth it.
missed out on animoog deal, http://www.moogmusic.com/product… but I believe it's iPad only $29.99
I'm looking into TouchOSC, http://hexler.net/software/touch… $4.99 anyone familiar with it on a PC?
they also make SonicLife http://hexler.net/software/sonic… $0.99

i've mostly used AVFoundation and OpenAL which both seem to work well (mostly use them for game dev). this is also worth checking out

iMaschine is fun, we could trade projects or build a community track combining loops

downloaded iMaschine,
nowhere near the control you get from Beat Maker, but it's fairly intuitive to use, and only 5 bucks

iMaschine is crap!
For such a BIG company to release this is SUCH a letdown!Considering the likes of NanoStudio was built by 1 guy!
http://www.blipinteractive.co.uk…TouchOSC is cool but it has one drawback. You have to design the interfaces on your computer then sync to ipad to get running. Not very good for on-the-fly controller-making.
MidiTouch is MUCH better in my opinion. You can design the controllers ON your iPad on the fly!
http://iosmidi.com/apps/midi-tou…A VERY exciting rumour is that Liine have bought Jazz Mutant Lemur (that touchscreen controller that retailed at £2500 a couple of years ago but came obselete when touchOSC etc came out for ipad as it worked out much cheaper) and they will be announcing/releasing it soon ......
