Question regarding after effects rendering......
How do you work out the best way to optimize your machine for rendering? We've put the same project on various machines in our office (all similar spec machines), but rendering time varies depending on whether multi-processing is on or off.
Anyone got any tips?

You can change some stuff in the preferences but if yo use that stuff for other stuff too it's not recommended.

Semi related ques - are there render farm or network render services for AE projects? Anyone ever use them?

Use the faster computer with multi-processing on, I assume.

ALL YOU NEED for after effects rendering -
http://www.gridironsoftware.com/…kicks the shit out of adobes in built renderer.
allows you to continue working while it performs a background render - using any spare ram to render.
gives more render options, fast render, background render etc.
it also enables multi core usage on old machines too if i remember rightly.enjoy! :D

examine your workflow: If your comp/projects are pretty complex, prerendering will always save you in the long run. precomp what you can and render what you can.
gridiron nucleo was kindof always a bust for me. you might try this to get your background render on:
http://aescripts.com/bg-renderer…lastly, the included after effects render engine works great, once you get it setup, collect all your files, fonts, plugins, etc... a bit of a pain but, at least its free.
