Anyone know an expression in after effects to attach the cameras position to a null. Instead of just attaching the two.

Add a null, make it 3D then option click on the cameras position value, drag the pickwhip from the position value (not the layer) then whip it to null position

^Yeah that's the way.
To take that further, you can also create 2 nulls, and parent the camera's position to one, and it's rotation to the other, giving you greater control. You can see that process in this tutorial I believe:
