Art rarely has any kind of emotional effect on me any more, therefore rendering it pointless. I don't know what that says about me or art.
I still go to galleries, but generally I see more things outside of galleries that effect me.

Good to see that Kevin's work has generated such a response on this site. Does anyone else think that there are major problems with the navigation of his website?

"Art is the one discipline where an "experiment" can be conducted that yields no meaningful results. "
How so? A result of an experiment is meaningful specifically because it is a result. The artist puts in work to get to his result, so it is meaningful to him. Thats what art is... its like, pretty much the definition of art. Just because you "don't get it" doesn't mean its not meaningful. Just by you "not getting it" the artist has done his work. He made you think about what he made, its not his fault you don't arrive at any conclusions.

i kind of agree, however, i don't like the term "mainstream" when used in the context of art. i think such sweeping generalizations are too presumptuous.
the communication link, to me, has always been between the art and the observer, not the artist and the observer. as such, any persons perception of art may vary from piece to piece and not necessarily from artist to artist. and using that rational, anyone can appreciate a piece regardless of any level of intellect, right-brainedness, or any other logical grouping you may choose. i'm sure there are those out there who are big fans of kelly clarkson and britney spears and other "mainstream" music artists who may also appreciate the work of abstract artists like pollock, for example.

Well, to be honest, I don't think this artist is trying to preach to the mainstream anyhow. I commend his work, and find such explorations as movements to add to other movements that feed others to express their creative minds and challenge themselves to break traditional or restrictive ways of thinking.

i often wonder if an artists' artistic abstractions are in some way inversely proportionate to their inability to communicate via more common forms such as speech or text.
sometimes i just don't understand them and have to do what comes natural to humans reacting to these obscure forms of communication: laugh.

Exploring forms and materials and reaction in relation to space and shape is a similar product as a graphic designer exploring abstraction of type or shape as a goal to accomplish one's vision and explore a medium. I don't see either of them ever really being an experiment with no meaningful results.

"successful execution"
is there a wrong way of laying golf clubs on the floor? or putting a toilet plunger in a helmet? or piling up a bunch of doormats?
the most interesting thing about his work is the idea someone would care.
- brains0
Depends if you think successful execution of ones idea is not a meaningful result.

I don't even think I can explain this, but do I have to? Exploration of ideas, and executing them in such a way is something that I feel is very important. I don't understand why so many people find this "pointless", I guess I just don't see many creative endeavors as pointless. I see visually stimulating work, and creative thought.
- Why do people need explanations? Is art without direct meaning really that intimidating?brains

sometimes i think being an artist is far depressing than being a designer.
but then i get ordered to do 6 more casino banners in two hours and realize this couldn't get any worse.

It blows my mind that people in creative fields think artwork like this is cryptic and pointless.
