"Rat Table is an independent art project by Jeeves Basu.
It is a table that will be created entirely by rats.
It is an experiment. To see if something beautiful can come from destruction.
The destruction caused by what most people consider a pest.
The rats will carve a giant solid wood block.
And the result will be a 100% natural, organic table sculpture.
The process will be filmed from several cameras. From lots of angles.
The finished piece and the timelapse making-of film will then be exhibited later in 2010."
Summary:
Rats destroy wood to create a table/piece of "art". Man films it. People say "interesting".

What's the rat's incentive to chew this wood block?

how is this going to be a "sculpture" rather than a block of wood with the edges chewed on?
- if framed properly, everything is a table and abstract sculpture.baseline_shift
- i agre. but i think this is more than that. i think there will be shape. i just trying to work out how its donesamshep

"Building the enclosure was a massive task in itself. Especially when you've never built something on this scale before. The result is a tank big enough to house 60 rats as they gnaw away."
So when the rats realize they can work together to gnaw their way out of the enclosure, instead of on some hipster table, and effectively overrun his living and/or work space, things will get, as they say...zany.

I will jump on the closest table and scream like a little bitch if I see that in real life
- if i saw Meeklo do this in real life, id sit in a pile of rats and laugh my ass off.baseline_shift
- hahahaha, you better have an extra table to put on the table I will be jumping on thenMeeklo

hmm must be incentivised somehow i guess... but probably something subtle if its being filmed

Well, if the rope scene in "Jewel of the Nile" is accurate (and I'm positive it is, cuz it's Jewel of the effin Nile), you could drizzle blood on the table and the rats will chew on that.

what i dont get is ok so how do they not just randomly gnaw everywhere, so how do they leave the legs, and how do they not eat through the top? and anyway wouldnt that take like weeks to do?
maybe they are hypnotised
