the apple tablet will just deliver content. again, if the content is any good it shouldn't need to be wrapped is lights, bells, mesh singlets or glow sticks (in this story the content is being played by ukit).
are you wanting to make something superficially interesting (which is fine, that's not said as a negative) or content? if not content then is the book format even the right direction to go in for your project?

Yeah - I want to make something special, that's the whole point.
The same way people try and find something special for a book cover rather than just printing the whole thing on newspaper paper.
I don't find something like this very 'special'.

I guess there isn't any way at the moment though - that's pretty clear. If the content of a book is good enough, it will just end up in Ffffound and some blogs out there.
Makes you feel about designing the book differently though. You should probably put branding on every single page.
Otherwise, what's the point?- 'Makes you think about designing' -Sorry, is late, I should probably go to sleepclearThoughts

clearthoughts, you want social? update stories daily similar to a comic or mini series then make an iApp

you want to make it really fun? make it explorable with different directions like in the movie big and those books from our kidhood

well, why don't you look at a gallery style website with the air download? it'll be less user-friendly but will create something unique-ish. maybe then look at the site being an overview, offering the progressive iterations of the 'book' as air downloads.
i think the problem is you haven't really addressed the obvious gulf between why you want to do this and what you want to produce. at least it seems that way to me.
a book or magazine is a product. the point of doing it is the finished product as a sales or promotional tool. that's really the point of graphic design - visual communication in a commercial environment. if it's not commercial then it's skirting the line of 'art'.
you need to address the basics, which often get missed when designers or artists create something themselves:
• why am i doing this?
• what outcome do i hope for?
• who are the market for this?
• what is the accepted norm for this market and do i want to support that or go out on a limb? (really an extension question on those listed above).
• a basic list of questions i always cover are: who? what? where? why?

yeah - an iPhone app would be great actually.
Just can't really create one, until CS5 is out though. No iPhone development skills :-(

wouldn't an iphone app limit you to only people with an iphone? why limit yourself?

You can do page transitions in a PDF exported from InDesign CS4. Better than a stick in the eye.

Hey... you know what would be really special? Getting the whole thing letterpressed in a bazillion spot colours on a really nice stock, cloth bound, maybe some foil and embossing action. Then mailing that fucker to me.

you could kill 30 prostitutes, skin them, dry the skin and then print on sheets cut from the hide. they'd be enough blood to mix the ink with so as to give it that special touch.
that would be both unique and special.
