Was asked to do some Flash work with an unexpected deadline. Got the work done before deadline. The client had to remind me to write 'em an invoice and they payed right away.
That made me :)
Thanks for listening!

How fucked up is our industry that it's a rarity and a relief when a designer actually gets paid by a client. And when one feels the need to post about this news publicly.
God help us all. We get no respect.

So pathetic when you get excited for getting paid for your work in a timely manner, what an industry we're in! I feel your excitement

I felt so warm and delightfully fuzzy that it occurred to me a "Nice Clients" thread, to commemorate the people that make this industry worth all its sweat-and-blood, was due.
...But why is that? Why don't people put up a fuss like this at restaurants or any other place where payments are due? Maybe it's because the web is just "too new" and everyone feels like they need a website, when they really don't want one, so they treat designers/developers as insipid underlings... Sometimes I feel like a drug-dealer in need of hiring a collector to get my $'s. I've even threatened "unethical of-the-record consequences" to a few guys if they "don't pay within X amount of time".
Someone needs to make a movie out of this industry with explosions and gunfights and death-threats and epic car-chases. Wow all these ideas now!- Americans love to bitch and moan. It's in their heritage.luckyorphan

Recently completed a side site for a woman who is already a client, a site for her painting work. She came to me about a month ago, needed it by the 1st of Dec. for a show. She had the photos and copy all ready to go, I pounded the site out for her, fully tested on all browsers, etc., quite a few late nights to get it done for her. She loved it, billed her on a Wednesday, I had a check on Monday.
If only they could all be so good.

I've had some amazing clients, especially as sometimes really.. it does happen... problems are, uh, are my fault, not theirs... and most clients have been very, very understanding about it.
Most respect issues come from me not respecting my own time....
I look back on it and the strange client interactions I had in the past were largely something I could have controlled earlier on if I was more thoughtful in interactions at the beginning... i.e. different assumptions not expressed well...
I'm also getting better at juggling time... In the past I had a huge overload or nothing at all effect....
