'Boston is technically higher up then Montreal so its COLD.'
what? montreal is about 300 miles north of boston.but yeah, it'll be cold, and boston is a great walking city, so it's not the optimal time to visit. fall really is the time to come...

good resource
go see the ICA, lovely building; if it gets cold enough, you can watch the ocean get all sloshy:

and then walk over to the barking crab, they have a nice coal-fired oven where they roast chestnuts and will fill you with all manners of liquors:

james hook is just over the bridge, it recently burned down, but they do have a temporary set-up. you can walk in and look at their lobster and crab tanks, they have the biggest lobsters you will ever see on display:

and then...

the city proper is mostly old stuffy white people or college students. it's a very racially segregated city.
- soynutz70
Totallty a racially segregated city. I love the place but there's a lot of douche college kids. Also its windy as all hell in the winter so its wicked cold.

Boston's a good town. in January.. if your irish or you dig all things irish, try the Black rose in faneuil hall its a decent pub I always enjoyed. ICA is ok, but I still think the MET is a better experience, and so is the Isabella Stewart Garden Museum. Overall, try to enjoy the little stores and restaurants between the north station area the park and kendall. Some good finds in there. Also there's a lot to do in Harvard Square but it is a bit of a tourist trap, so I'd advise just coming up with a plan of walking the city, you can do it all in an afternoon, boston metro feels small because it really is. But enjoy, it will be brutally cold, going to Boston in January is like asking for ear muffs and hand warmers for xmas.

"The city proper" includes Mattapan and Roxbury, which are mostly black. Agree about the segregation, but it's really more economic segregation than racial these days. Let's just say that it's not easy to wander into a black neighborhood if you're a tourist, you really have to actively find it.

the only thing I know of boston is from the dropkick murphys... they seem to really like it.
