As soon as they opened in carnaby street it all went wrong, suddenly they've become a big 'brand' complete with obnoxiously sized logos on shirt cuffs and other 'wacky' places, their emails are so self consciously 'friendly' you'd think they lived next door and would pop by for a cuppa. And as for the frequency of their fucking spam – holy fuck you bunch of welsh cunts, I don't need three emails a week telling me all about the latest merino underpants or whatever bullshit 'sale' is on 'today only', because I'm pretty sure you'll have another one next week, and then another the week after that.
Remove the big logos, get realistic with your prices and STFU talking about yourselves, then maybe I'll buy something again.

Couldn't agree more, they've ended up being totally up themselves. The emails that used to read as "friendly" (Can't believe I used to eat that shit up) now come across as smarmy, preachy and self satisfied.

It all changed when a guy from Satchis took over a few years ago, before that they were just as they portrayed themselves, a friendly local brand run by local people, with good products.
Keep an eye out for my mate Bowlegs doing the shop display in Carnaby street this week though ha!

the other way round actually - david that set up Howies (with clare) used to work as a copywriter for Saatchi & Saatchi. Howies were acquired by Timberland and David has since left.
I think he is concentrating on the Do Lectures and writing a book.

Never bought anything from them. Can't stand the 'more righteous than you' attitude, no matter how they wrap it up. And their stuff is way over-priced. 25 quid for socks?!
