Hmmm. Can I do that with the G10? What software do I need?

Set the exposure manually?

i want it to auto meter on burst mode over the course of two hours. Manually isn't a option.
- colab0
Pffft.
There should be a way to do it in camera.

you're not going to be able to "burst" for 2 hours.

You need a higher-res than what the time lapse will do in movie mode? I *think* it meters before every shot (either 1 or 2 second intervals). I've never used it for something as extreme as a sunrise on range though, but I do recommend taking it off auto white balance.

There should be a simple way to do it in a mid range camera like this. Honestly... answers like "google it" and "buy a more expensive camera" are oh so kind... but i'm looking for help from someone who knows a thing or two about cameras.
- Sorry that we can't re-engineer your camera to add a rather specific feature.ETM

why won't my pencil draw in blue like that one? that's a colored pencil boy. they look the same they both write, it should be able to be blue.

Google is an amazing thing. Took 2 seconds to find this person's blog who is trying to do what you want, and with a G9. Here's an excerpt.
"Another thing is that you will have no control whatsoever over the exposure values of the camera and as you can see, at the end, on the photo video I made I was getting a lot of noise on because the camera adjusted the exposure and ISO automatically."
- Not saying you shouldn't ever ask for help. But we can't help with the impossible.ETM

Typical.
To expect that a camera would meter for each exposure isn't asking too much. This isn't exactly an entry level camera. It's among the top of the p/s range.

FFS. I tried google first bozo.
Thanks for the link.

Oh... And ETM. That isn't what I'm trying to do... So google failed you there. I'm telling you AGAIN that I've tried google... Part of the reason I was asking for advice from someone who knows this camera.
But either way. Thanks for chiming in with the google quip. That knee slapper never gets old.
- At this point, it looks like no one gives a fuck what you're trying to do.ETM

I am telling you as someone who has owned a G9 for some time. I am pretty damn sure it can't be done in camera. You seem to not wish to comprehend this.
Its a fucking G9, and there are a lot of better cameras that can't do it. My 20D can't either. You need to rig an external meter and use software or just make the adjustments manually.
- I believe comicsans basically told you this 11 posts ago.ETM

I've owned two G9's over the past several years - first one fell off a 16 story balcony last summer while shooting a timelapse sunset =]. Regardless, the second one has the same issue as the first: no exposure controls - what it "sees" is what you "gets". Post processing is the way to go here. The other possibility is to fake the timelapse look and feel - shoot 720P video, then speed up the resulting movie - I know, I know - but it is all for the art, right?
