Html Special Language Characters -- ascii?

I am working on a website that needs to be exported in four different languages. The client has asked for x4 copies all in different languages as apposed to any sort of dynamically driven language converter.
Here's my question: They've sent me all of the content in the four different languages in four separate word .docs. Copying the characters directly from the word .doc into my editor (coda) isn't working. It's showing crazy special characters. Is there a way to get these docs exported in a way that I can simply copy/paste into my editor? I really want to avoid looking up each special character's ascii code and inputing it that way (there are 20-30 special characters per language per page).
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!!
