hey,
upgraded to windows 7 from xp and lost my shitty version of extensis suitcase. what should i use to manage my fonts now? i am using this shitty free thing called FontXplorer for now, but it sucks ass.
the built-in font control panel in win7 is better than what it was in xp (i.e. better than nothing) but still not good enough. i want to preview all my fonts with my own sample text, be able to activate/deactivate fonts or sets of fonts with a few clicks, etc... what do you recommend?

I've tried suitcase fusion 2. It's excellent.
It actually has all the functionalities that fontexplorer has, plus you can have floating window of type (handy for shortlisting - testing on place)

anyone else have opinions on this...?

Some people seem to have something against FontExpert, but I'm ok with it.

Wait, you can design without a Mac?
- i can pretend, which is good enough for my clients |:bigtrick
- Who wants to be a designer anyway? Get Windows.Corvo2
- but without a mac you can't blame all your screwups on cross-plaform issuesProjectile

There's an updated version of Suitcase that has a ton of additional features. You can probably can get an upgrade price since you owned a previous version.

I agree with xcarlx, give a try to AMP Font Viewer.
http://www.ampsoft.net/utilities… - I use it as well as the powerful FontExpert 2009 from Microsoft.

Is there a version of Linotype FontExplorer X that works well on Windows 7? It currently seems to be Mac only.

I love how (even in Vista) when you install a font through the control panel, you get that old school Windows 3 file dialog.

I installed the Suitcase Fusion 2 demo... it works ok so far except that NONE OF MY POSTSCRIPT FONTS seem to work... they activate ok, but they don't show up in the fonts list in my programs! wtf!
*this is true with all of the font managers i tried - seems like a windows 7 thing. what the fucking fuck!

The PC beta version of FontExplorer X is still available, but I can't for the life of me get it working in Windows 7. Here it is if you want to try:
http://fex.linotype.com/download…Let me know if you manage to get it working. Instead I have been using Suitcase Fusion 2, but absolutely hate it! I have lost all of my organised FontExplorer X font sets now too.

Suitcase Fusion 2 rocks. Simple/intuitive interface, never had any problems with it. As good as newer versions of Suitcase on OSX!

i was thinking of asking this today.
how many fonts would you have installed at any one time? I currently have just over 1000 fonts always on and Vista (believe it or not runs fine) I install new fonts as and when projects need them. i found font managers (mac and pc) just screwed with my system so i gave up.
I really don't need 1000 fonts- i am the only person that doesn't use a font management program?mydo
