I have a significant about of cash I have held aside to donate to a charity, but I havent been able to make up my mind on which one. I am beginning to think I might be a heartless bastard because I go and read about different charities and none of them really pluck my heart strings. I would really love to see every dollar I donate go as far as humanly possible and do as much good as it can.
Does anyone have any recommendations for charities? Ones you donate to?

if you want to see your dollar go as far as humanly possible, you might want to try something different than just dumping it to charity.

Well, I was using charity as more of an umbrella term meaning "I want to donate my money to an organization that helps people" and, I would like for it to be a tax deductible organization. I am just curious if anyone here gives to an organization they believe in and would recommend.

it´s a question of personal taste i guess, but i give to medecins sans frontier. they´re about immediate help in hardcore environments, not the strategic long term stuff. they also seem to be capable of not wasting their funds.

If you want to be really cool, befriend a homeless guy, feed and clothe him, get him a gym membership and a basic job. That's enough to get anyone back on their feet if you help them not slack.

hey i worked on a film recently, its not a massive organisation. they send doctors from oz to countries like rwanda to perform surgeries for free on kids. they are amazing people, they do it in their 'holiday time'
here is the rwandan one : http://rwanda.ooh.org.au/
and more about them: http://www.ausaid.gov.au/hottopi…
its pretty low key compared to something like wwf or something and would probably insure every cent would help out needy kids.
here is a brief part of the film i worked on ( its cut for my reel etc but you can get an idea) the directors brother is one of the cardiologists.
if you do donate it would be awesome, let me know and i can send you a copy of the film or something, its quite an amazing story, some of the kids have never walked, and within three days after the operation, they are up , running around and smiling...
