Totally (ya liek totully) bored of all these "OMG WHAT CMS SHUD I UUUZEE?!?11 threads, only to have the same OPs post back a day later asking on tutorials on using whatever they decided to roll with.
I propose a few QBN code geeks get together and write a nice modular lightweight CMS.
I'm thinking database support (MySQL, Postgre, etc), simple page management & templating system, and a nice REST interface (output formats including XML, JSON, Serialized JS) to top it off so it can be used to supply data to anything that can make a HTTP request.Any (fault) takers?

- Querys a table and spits out a well formed XML file with the results. Saves tracking down rogue characters in flat filesrounce

Inn addition to your list, my basic requirements are good documentation, good support and a plugin architecture. Without these you haven't got a CMS just a pet project (c.f.MODx which is excellent but lacks my 3 requirements)

a complex system that actually works is almost always an outgrowth of a simple system that actually works (so says some guru,,,,)
most reliable CMS's start out to do one thing well, then things get added, hopefully not undermining the reason it was cool....
a system that specs everything at the beginning... there's a long list of failed projects.....

True vaxorcist & comicsans, but I did mention the word 'modular' in my OP. I was thinking about having officially maintained plugins that are included the distribution (as well as having a barebones version available). The little feature spec I gave was to illustrate the ideas I had for what could be included in the full distribution.
- guh, forgot to add: Even basic things like DB connection management would be contained in a plugin.rounce

(Bump) You should do this.
