I've spent quite a bit of time now looking a solid all rounder to no avail. My skill set is PHP/JS/SQL/XML/XHTML and I'm looking for a flexible solution with all the usual bells and whistles.
We've tried all the usual suspects: osCommerce, ZenCart, Shopify, Actinic. Shopify is great for small-time projects but the rest of them just feel outdated and convoluted.
The only one that has come close to ticking all of the boxes was TradingEye by DPI vision, but version 5 was really badly structured, the code was messy and far from what I'm used to. Has anyone tried version 6 of TradingEye? Is it enough of an improvement for us to give it another shot?
Other than that, any suggestions? Somthing modern, fair well established and fully featured. A lot to ask I know!!

I've used Expression Engine with FoxyCart on a few projects and it's come up solid. At least you're lost limited with layout, look and feel... like most systems.

We just used Magento for the first time on a project.
Plug in and play likes. But if you want to do anything more complex then it takes a bit of reading.
eg. lots of reading had to be done to allow us to build the functionality of customers customising stuff before buying.
