That's sickening.
How in sweet fuck can idiots be allowed to manufacture such overly-wasteful crap is beyond me.
Fuck you, Leventhal.

I mean - I could begin to understand if they manufactured PoS electronics that lit up the internals of packaging on display* - but to actually put a couple of batteries and LEDs in each container?
Stupid.
We're fucked as a species, you know?

That's all great and fancy and showy and whatnot... but.. does it hold a stick to real mens shaving product? I mean... i don't want to put a bubbly gel that glows purdy on my fucking face... c'mon.

FFS
"The shaving cream is also light on lather, the foam that bursts from the can of brands like Gillette Foamy or that forms when gels like Edge are slathered onto beards. While shaving creams with no lather can still do an excellent job of preventing nicks, foam helps with “tracking,” in industry parlance.
Tracking, said Lou Hantman, 85, a chemist who developed shaving cream and other products for Gillette for 50 years — first as an executive and then as a consultant — and who helped formulate the NXT shaving products, is “when you make a sweep down and then you know you’ve been there.”
While a thick lather tracks where your razor has been, it makes it harder to know where it’s going, like around goatees or sideburns.
“We believe our target market is interested in what we call ‘improved navigation’ around existing facial hair guys want to keep,” Mr. Leventhal said, adding that he is planning to introduce an “improved” shave gel in six months that foams a bit more. "

pink floyd did this with their cd release of the pulse i think a little blinking led light on the cd book that held 2 cds. it eventually went out but as it was on display with other cds a stereo and such you could see that thing blinking in the dark for years

- yeah TONS of products have used lights on their packaging, but not to this levelMeeklo

I agree with most of you, but you have to applaud their honesty, when most brands are producing high volumes of landfill waste, and lying to us (consumers) right on our faces calling themselves "the greenest product on the market" or stuff like that.
these guys just didn't give a rat's ass.
we are just going to add extra waste, spend more money on the actual package than the product it holds and see what happens, screw the planet. We all know that the actual product is never in question with a packaging like that, it can be filled any crappy product and it will still stand out from the rest.

Cmon guys - it glows!

that article was published march 2008 and all links to cvs are dead searches are empty and the amazon link says when in stock. i think it already failed

why not just inject the shaving gel with plutonium? surely, that glows too and without the need for batteries.

"Each NXT light is powered by two or three AAA batteries"?
What a waste, I think they could have used a smaller LED and a large button watch battery and achieved the same effect. That would still be a waste but smaller impact on the environment.

Oh yeah.... Liquor is where it be-

ffs! i would never buy that because a) I'll know i'm paying for packaging not a product and b) because it's a waste.
I love the way they hail these things as genius before seeing any kind of results. (or lack thereof) It will boom because everyone will buy one out of curiosity, then it will die a quick death.

for every conservation and waste reduction step taken forward, two are taken backwards.

next... lol.
