Nice - Not too abstract... but what exactly is the point of those shapes on the back.
IMHO it would be better if you just had the type... no need for the rest.

Who rectangles instead of truer forms?
My only thought is that perhaps your ('over-') simplification might insult your client? I mean, I know how touchy these foodie types get - might your choice of support graphics undermine the pretensions of their art?
- detritus0
I almost feel guilty suggesting this - but have you tried just using forks as the support graphic? Could eke a couple of Ms out of them, right?

The shapes represent the layout of a formally laid table, circles: plates and glasses, rectangles: cutlery.
Those same rectangles are then repeated as the logo mark representing MM as in Mikes initials.
I think I might be trying too hard.

I kind of like it. It'd be cool if you letter-pressed the shapes and did tone on tone on bright white paper.

love that the logo creates the M in Michael (with the cutlery getting smaller towards the centre) which is then used as a small component in the set table on the back. nice!
- version30
rectangles? really? i'm with det on this one, he should receive more refined details
- TINKLDN0
To answer version3, the mark is MM which is then used in an abstract representation of a set table.
Why would I turn my M's into knives, forks and spoons?

If anything I would say that the keylines are a little too apologetic

- a Single Place setting on the back works better IMODancer

- Aye, quite - I was thinking the service on the previous iteration was a bit tight. Didn't say aught though...detritus
- Would you kindly remove your elbow from my soup good sir.TINKLDN

Agreed Dancer.
I had tried playing with solid forms to create the mark and patterns but felt it ended up a little too 80's electro for the target audience.

Very nice!

so he's looking for work?
This card says, "Hi, please hire me as a Manager for your spacetravel-themed restaurant."Sorry about that, I just think the starkness and abstracted illustrations might confuse some(most?) restaurant people. They might not get the post-modern minimal graphic design.

Most of the people here probably eat off their laps 6 days a week so it might be trying too hard for 'them'.
If Mr. Mackay manages high-end restaurants then I think it's pretty much bang on.
I might consider changes the knives, forks and spoons to look more like knives, forks and spoons... but on the other hand that will conflict with your idea of the logo on the front looking like 'MM'.

Shepards pie, chips and peas out of a cardboard tray in front of my computer!!

As a former waiter in high end restaurants I got the concept immediately and recognized the MM parallel.
