Somehow, mainstream news outlets failed to notice this, probably because it's not a biggie...

Notice how they attack the people instead of the government that are actually committing the copyright and patent frauds....

youd think with the enormous popularity of youtube and blogger, google would be way against this.
- That, and youtube has that music/movie copyright monitorFredMcWoozy
- google/youtube are both in bed with the government. You wanna talk about evil. Get stored food and weaponsFredMcWoozy

Before everyone panics, maybe we should consider HOW ISPs are gonna be able to monitor each and every action of all their users from now on. If all it took was passing a law they would have done that long ago. The problem with stopping file sharing isn't the lack of laws it's the inability to enforce them.

Well poop. "no direct or indirect motivation of financial gain"
Seriously?
I thought the entire point of copyright was so that I didn't take your work and pass it off as my own to profit off of it. Since when did it get stretched to keep me from PUTTING IT ON MY COMPUTER SO I CAN WATCH/LISTEN TO IT ON MY OWN TERMS WITHOUT NEEDING THE DISC?
I *really* need to make a phone call.

Problem with this is that the companies of the world are taking it upon themselves to set the stage for laws without any public input or awareness. Its the new fascism and they're going international. The entire thing has basically nothing to do with copyright protection and everything to do with new forms of information persecution.
- ukit0
Actually it probably has more to do with the entertainment industry cashing in on their donations to Congress and trying to squeeze every last bit of profit out of a sinking enterprise. But again, what do these new rules even mean if there's no enforcement mechanism? Last time I checked there wasn't some magical genie flying around checking to see what everyone's downloading.
- this is about information in all its glory not simply the entertainment industryeieio

They will be able to scan your laptop's content for infringed content, there will be jail for changing DVD cover to a custom one (counterfeiting!), there will be jail for stripping DRM protection even from files you own copyright to.
The last one is good though, if Lars Ulrich downloads a Metallica album from torrents again, he'll do serious time for it!
- ukit0
At the airport? Where are you getting this idea? How do they distinguish "infringing" content from normal?

I pray this doesn't vindicate the current legal actions of the RIAA.

This scares me. Like, a lot.

Coincidence?

NSA To Build $1.5 Billion Cybersecurity Data Center
The massive complex, comprising up to 1.5 million square feet of building space, will provide intelligence and warnings related to cybersecurity threats across government.

as ukit points out above...how can they do this? I work in a large company. They can watch everything everyone does every minute at their computer. But if they really did that they would go broke. they would need security staff of 10s of thousands...what they focus on is the big stuff, like a virus that would break the computer network badly and bring business to a standstill.

Look at the prision system. It is run on money and if not money, people. People=Money. More money can be made incarcerating people and feeding them in the machine.
I suggest you read and watch somethings......Its not just a myth, big brother watches you everyday. Time to learn Chinese.
- ukit0
I suggest some of you STOP reading and watching some things....cause clearly you have lost ability to distinguish reality from science fiction.
- So you are saying not to read or watch things. Ignorance is bliss? Thats fine, lets do that. I'm not saying that NWO happens tomorrow, but dont think it wont happen.Ironmonkey
