Hi guys...
Have any of you had or have exclusive arrangements with clients so that you work only for them in a particular field/on designing a particular products?
I have a client who likes my work, a lot, and doesn't really want me to work for other related business producing the same artwork/products.
In this kind of situation, do you think we could enter and exclusive arrangement, where I work only for them on a particular project, no-one else will be able to hire me for that purpose, and in I get something in return?
What kind of deal would you expect to arrange...a percentage or product sales?, buy me out?or another kind of benefit?...probably for a fixed amount of time too.
Any ideas how to proceed with an exlcusive work arrangement?
It obviously needs to be worth my while, otherwise I'd be stupid not to take the other offers from other related business, which have just arrived in my inbox.Any sensible advice?
Thanks

If you can get them to pay you a premium of 250% and agree to a minimum spend or a decent retainer might be worthwhile.
You have to weigh up the long term consequences here –
narrower portfolio, smaller breadth of creativity, and smaller client base – versus the potential windfall in terms of cash.I'd leave a get out clause in case they shaft you in any way - stifling your creativity, too many hours, they drop the quality standards etc etc.

A retainer would be a nice way to cover everyone's ends, and make sure no one gets screwed in the end. Marry that with a crisp, new contract and everyone should be happy.

Thanks for the input.
Personally, I love the work, right now anyway.
I'm thinking just a retainer to keep me from working for the competition on similar projects, renewable every year. If they still want to work with me too, great, if not, great but they retainer still stands to secure exclusivity.
Hmmm..interesting
