site as art?

A friend of mine recently asked me if I knew of any sites that were essentially stand-alone works of art. He used the phrase web design "that doesn't try to accomplish anything." I think what he meant was whether there were websites that were beautifully designed that existed solely for their own sake--not to hawk a product or service or person or whatever. The only one I could think of (that still existed) off the top of my head was once-upon-a-forest.com.
You guys know of anything along those lines? I'm stumped.

well basically it is no different then a blank canvas. I think where art really hits the internet is with motion graphics and motion typography. That is 'digital art'

just because a site has no objective or value, it's not suddenly "art"

Yeah and art is such a subjective thing, there's not much point in having this argument anyway. Anyway, long story short, your friend is wrong. In the year 2009, humans have made art out of pretty much everything possible, including their own shit.
