that last frame at 10:01 is not visible its like a blank frame
- broxybluenose0
yeah, but it pointless.
What if you have two layers and one should end at 10.00 and the other begin at 10.00? They now overlap.

Is the rashness still there? :(
- M_C_P0
i feel ya. that's how final cut does it too.
think of it like this: park on a frame. you want that frame to be the out but the duration of that frame is, wait for it.... one frame. so it's technically right to "cut" that last frame at the right side of the out point (aka the start of your next shot)
- i feel you too, but that's not how people work in after effectsbroxybluenose
- chossy0
No it doesn't you are confusing yourself, the playhead sits on the frame you are on, it always has and it never ever crops items and includes the next frame. If you crop at 10 it crops at ten the next number you see is the next frame.
- broxybluenose0
chossy...no it doesn't
If you want a layer to cut (go to black etc) at 10.00sec and the play head is at 10.00, pressing (alt ]) at 10.00sec will cut the layer at 10.01sec, meaning it will cut (go to black) at 10.01
- chossy0
Hey broxy of course they overlap, if you stop one at ten and start one at ten then they will overlap by one frame, you cannot put two things in at the same time physics won't allow it.
- broxybluenose0
come on, why would you ever need that function in after effects.
Forget about stopping and starting footage.
It's about working in after effects.- what?!!! this makes no sense dude!!!!chossy
- after effect is not an editing tool, it's an animation tool!broxybluenose
- M_C_P0
its not a function. that's just an editing principle that goes back a long ways. avid, fcp and i bet premiere all do it that way.

OMG kill this thread

By the way I tried things like holding cntrl and dragging the clip to try and line their start and end points up, but its like its in autosnap mode, forcing me to overlap them even when I zoom way in.
- whereRI0
right click in project window
>interperet footage>main>
near the bottom you can specify number of times to loopthat should do it
otherwise your comp frame rate vs footage might be different- Alright Ill try that now.CygnusZero4
- it will then be looping in one footage layer that you drag inwhereRI
- Yep that did it. Never knew about that. thanks palCygnusZero4
- chossy0
No AE does not do an overlap, you are doing it wrong.
- Okay my AfterEffects would like a word with you about that. It's forcing an overlap, trust me.CygnusZero4
- must be frame rate issuewhereRI
- Could be, but its definitely forcing it and I cant turn it off. Doesnt matter anyway, the looping worked.CygnusZero4
- yeah, you have some weird settings probably it shouldn't force you to do thatMeeklo
- Redmond0
After Effects always did overlap 1 frame over an other for me too. I thought it was normal.
- It lets me line things up like voiceover files, graphic files, but not these 2 movie clips. Its weird.CygnusZero4
- maybe its this: whatever frame you are looking at is the frame infront of the timebar.whereRI
- did you zoomed in all the way?
you should be able to move it EXACTLY where you want itMeeklo
- broxybluenose0
Does it annoy anyone that, if you want to cut a layer at the end, by pressing: command(]), the layer cuts 1 frame beyond?
- sorry I meant.... alt(])broxybluenose
- no it doesn't.chossy
- unless I missuderstood, but no my copy cuts where I want it to cut.chossy
- if you select a layer at 10sec for example and do (alt ]) it crops it to 10:01broxybluenose
- whereRI0
yeah that loop function is super handy
another way you could do it is enable time remappin, then alt click the time stopwatch and write the expression "loop"(cycle) that will loop the keyframes on whatever option you clicked, there more loop settings like pingpong etc, you can find all of em online i think
- chossy0
Never for me dudes, I have been using it since version 4 and has never overlapped for me, I go to the frame I want my clip to come in at and place my footage on that frame. Always works. I think you guys are holding shift down which snaps to the last frame of footage or a keyframe, it does not go to the frame after the last frame of video. You only get an overlap if YOU chose to put the file on that frame AE does not and has never ever purposefully given you an overlap it has always been your doing it only puts footage where you want it to go.
- chossy0
Put it this way, if you hold shift down then pull your scrubber to where you think the end of the video is why can you still see video?, reason being because you are looking at the last frame, what you want to do it see black, if you don't have another clip underneath that footage, simply hit shift zip to your end frame then tap scroll down button once which jogs you a frame forward then drop your footage on that frame.

totally sounds like a frame rate issue, holding shift and dragging always snaps perfectly for me. Make sure all your comps and footage share the same frame rate
