For a while now I have been searching for an affordable 3D camera tracking/matching piece of software. After many failed attempts at trying to crack Boujou which costs 10 000 $, I came across PFHoe, made by pixel farm for a mind blowing 150 euro. Its their most basic option, but Im wondeing if anyone here has any experience with PFHoe or another, just as cheap option ?

I'm looking into buying one of the Pixel Farm products or SynthEyes. Twas a discussion on this last night, and M_C_P highly recommended SynthEyes. Around same price range as the PF stuff.

Yeah that was my second choice, synth eyes is 400 $ which is 267 euro so not major difference. just playin around with pfhoe demo now, seems pretty good. simple and easy

If you got anything laying around that you've done with it, that you don't mind tossing up on a server at some point, that'd rock and be much appreciated. I'm trying to see some 'case study' type footage or work in progress to make a choice myself.

will do, i doubt the demo would let you export the 3d camera tho. If i buy it ill do it for sure tho.

so far it is a little annoying, when it cant solve a frame it says it cant but there doesnt seem to be much you can do to fix it by hand
- harlequino0
Hmm, yeah I can see that as being super annoying. You might wind up getting a bad jump in your composited final with the 3d render. Kind of kills the illusion and the point of the software.
- yeah exactly********
- reading manual, seems there is a way********

have you looked at mocha? they're shipping a version with cs4. haven't tried that but i've heard great things about the standalone app.
- harlequino0
Heard a bit about Mocha, mostly in passing, I'll check out their demo vid. Is the more 3 dimensional tracking limited to planar, or does it go deeper into matchmoving like one of the above apps?

hmmm ill have a looksee

hey harlequino!
just got syntheyes today, feckin sweet, way more control than pfhoe...
busy playin around with it now...über fast,über easy, im geeking out

Oh excellent! Like I said, this bubbled up again today. Might need to budget for this. What was damage approximately?
- harlequino0
What 3D app are you using? I'd be integrating with Cinema4D.
- eating_tv0
^ about that, i'm looking to broaden my knowledge of the 3D (4D?) world. So far I only know After Effects a tiny bit of Blender and a smidgen of gMax... Cinema4D - is that the best choice to go for if you're into AV?
- Depends, C4D is very Mac friendly, and generally is regarded as one of the more intuitive apps.harlequino
- i started on studio max many moons ago, i really battled with it. c4d's logic works for me********
- aaah key word there "intuitive"********
- Same here, only I worked with Maya for a couple years. Just way too much for my needs and felt steep, learning wise.harlequino

damage = $ 399 ( or 4.95 euro :)
yep i use c4d, it has every export under the sun, xcept c4d. but, frett not, all you do is use the light wave one, works perfect. make sure to set prefs up to c4d xyz axis.
also has awesome ae export, comes in like a c4d compositon...great for particular + form etc.
- Wow that's super. Ok, I no longer need to research the match move app purchase, haha.harlequino

have a look at the demo if you havent already, its pretty full on, just no export i think. they have a great online support too.
basically im ready to have synth eyes baby after today. ive been dying to get matching software for so long. cant wait to get out the sony ex1 and shoot some stuff- Rather partial to the EX1 myself. Just need some...ahem...money.harlequino
- yeah. i dont own one, but have access to one sometimes. or if my brother would lend me his 5D mkII********
- harlequino0
I can live with $400 if it's really that powerful. Especially the level of vfx integration it totally solves.
Yeah I really wonder what the markup on Boujou is all about. I could see it being maybe a grand, but almost 10 large? Jesus. Maybe it's all overhead.
- ********0
yeah the mark up on boujou isnt even for the industrial version. maybe it comes down to whether synth can handle 5k raw footage or something. id imagin 1920x1080 is probably all it can handle. boujou probably takes on the 2-5k range. just guessin tho.
- Could be that, could also be integration with suites like Flame and Inferno perhaps, which is a different animal.harlequino
- eating_tv0
^ thanks guys! never knew there was so much AV knowledge round here :D
- harlequino0
^Oh yeah totally. And there's folks like chossy who have tremendous editing/post house experience and really knows his shit. Pick his brain when you can.
