I'm surprised they didn't go with a more carved look to the medals since they are "Haida-inspired." Perhaps they were looking to save on production costs.

they look like they were melted

Out of curiosity, why should Haida culture figure so prominently in the Olympic branding. Yes the Haida people are native to the region, but then whitey ran them off the land. Now we're supposed to appropriate their culture for Olympic imagery because... why? If we wanted honest Vancouver imagery it should be:
1) a drunken jock from New West barfing on Granville Street
2) a wasp family decked out in Arctyrx gear rolling through west van in their Audi
3) an asianThat's Vancouver.
- come on bort...don't hate just for the sake of it..zenmasterfoo
- Not hating. Just pointing out that using Haida imagery for olympic branding seems like exploitation.bort
- wow - that is one ignorant commentsequoia

- ^ yes... my thoughts. i like the mascots on their own but the overall design direction is allover the map.inkpink
- agreed.zenmasterfoo

same thoughts as what ideaist said...
seems a little late to start using a haida theme. shoulda been more prevalent from the get go.
they really have gone in all directions with the design themes... inuit logo, anime inspired mascots, urban posters/ graphics, ultra future-modern torch design, stereotypically canadian athlete uniforms, and now haida medals.
def a melting pot approach.

I'm sure these medals will add to the overall debt we'll be paying off for the next 25 years.
Yay Debtlympics!

So damn ugly. Not seeing the influence at all.
Right in line with the new logo, I suppose.

it works. when they take those photos of winners biting their medal, they'll look like pancakes
- baseline_shift0
wonky.
seems the olympics should strive for a clean & classic look.

"Their undulating forms evoke British Columbia’s mountains, ocean and snow."
Uhm, right... OK. I second the "penny run over by a train" sentiment.

- none of which are unique to the location - rationale fail...identity

I actually like it, not sure about the "undulations" though.

Kind of looks like a penny that has been run over by a train.

What do you think of the design of the medals?
