We will never know the real net assets of the vatican,
just think about it, They (the new roman empire) have been in power for 1700 years, they had plainly of time to amass a fortune close to no other corporation.
an example here in italy, they are exempted of paying taxes and it is asserted that 22% of the entire house market is in hand of the vatican (maybe higher though)
