Referral incentives

I'm considering offering referral incentives to certain friends/business colleagues/past clients that connect me with new clients. Assuming a project proceeds, the person that facilitated the connection would receive a certain percentage of the sale.
What do you guys think about this? I'm a one-man web design operation targeting small to medium sized businesses. What percentage would be fair? 5%?
My one concern is this would expose my rates. If someone know they're getting 5% of a sale, they can easily determine what I'm charging other clients. Because my rates fluctuate depending on clients, this could be potentially damaging when dealing with past clients that bring me new projects.

It's a good idea, a lot of recruiters use that idea. Maybe use a specific dollar value instead of percentage.

Focus on getting paid. Finder's fees should be discussed before projects start, right? I dunno, you seem too nice for your own good.

Huh? I am trying to get paid. Work is drying up, I'm trying to bring more in.
