Hey guys. I'm going down the CA-1 for 5 days total from SF on my motorcycle (tues-sun). How far down should I go....any tips on what to do/see?

Couple things on the must do: hiking, kayaking/rafting, camping, surfing, see Big Sur, Monterrey, Carmel, spend a day in San Luis Obispo.

Tremendous! I did the same trip a few years back and it changed my life. First stop was Santa Cruz then Monterey, Big Sur. If you camp in Big Sur, wake up early and go. Like 6am. You'll have the whole road to yourself and that's the curvy part that goes along the cliffs. Magical. You don't want to be in traffic along there. I wouldn't go any further south than Santa Monica if I were you. Maybe stop in Malibu.

Thanks Mattb. Life changing eh? Can't wait. Could you tell me specifically what you did in S.Cruz, Sur etc?

I didn't do much except ride, stop to eat / refuel, look around, sleep etc. There are some nice towns to see. Check out Solvang and Santa Barbara too.

When (not, if) you stay in Big Sur, I recommend this place. It's run by a bunch of old hippies and the back story on the place is terrific. A very peaceful, laid-back place to stay overnight. No TV, No phone, just nature.

Very nice. I'm in the east bay and have been thinking about this for a while now. Will definitely be interested in the full report!

make sure you fill up on gas before you get around big sur, they try charging $4.60 around there, $2 for a fucking egg and about $6 for a pint of milk
- kirkcreek campground is a great site on the coast if you're doing any camping********

Carmel has the last easy beach to get to (Monastery Bay) until you're far south of Big Sur... as above, get gas beforehand (there's a Chevron in Carmel that's cheap). If you're a decent climber or just adventurous, find some of the pull-outs in Big Sur that you can climb down. There are a few (one in particular even has steps) but they can be tricky to get down– totally worth it though. Also if you see an older French look gentlemen named Gabriel hitchhiking near Palo Colorado, say hi!

if you spend the night in big sur...this place is definitely worth checking out.
Hot springs on the cliff face over the ocean....only thing is its only open to the public @ midnight or something....

Also anyone know any good whitewater rafting spots going on now? Or is the season over?

I say cross the border to mexico....See what your bike is capable of down there.
- version30
you really think that 250 has enough power to maneuver you through traffic in an offensive manner?
