The hyphen (-)
The minus sign (−)
The figure dash (‒)
The en dash (–)
The em dash (—)
The quotation dash (―)What's their role in online publications? I mean, do you ever use them properly or simply slap a minus?

nothing bugs me more than two hyphens instead of an em dash.

a hyphen, em, and en are all the same key plus modifiers. have no idea where a quotation dash is.

I try to use the correct ones, but usually just copy and paste. Still don't know any easy way to type them out (I'm sure there is some kind of keyboard thing...maybe...)

I only recently discovered how easy most important of them are to type on a mac keyboard...

em dash = shift option hyphen
opening typographer’s quotes = option left-bracket
closing typographer’s quotes = shift option left-bracket
opening single quote = option right-bracket
closing single quote = shift option right-bracket
