I have an old cable router and an adsl router.
(current wireless running via ADSL)
because i live in sunny london the houses are made of granite and I cant get full conn everywhere in the flat.So i have the idea of connecting the 2 via hardwire with the ADSL router providing the actual net connection....
is this possible?
as theoretically I think that if the cable router is being served by the modem router it should work?

Yep, it's possible with two routers - but I think the routers need to have the option available in their firmware menus...
E.g. My main router is netgear, and has a menu option called 'Advanced Wireless Settings' -> you input the MAC address of the connecting router The connecting router is a belkin -> which has an option called 'Wireless Bridge'., where you need to input similar settings.

just connect a LAN port to another LAN port on the second router (not the WAN port, that won't work) and make sure they're on the same subnet and DHCP is turned off on the second router so it's not giving out IP addresses.

I have an Airport Extreme plugged in to my cable modem which sends out an 802n signal for my laptops and appletv. Plugged in to one of the ethernet ports on the Airport is a Netgear 802b wifi router which sends out a b signal for my PS3. This works perfectly and hasn't given me any trouble yet.
