I don't know. There's so much more than that.
It's not so much about "brands", appearance, shoe technology, etc... it's about what works with your feet and your body motion. You could easily have a dude get injured using Asics simply coz Asics might not be the right shoes for him even if the brand Asics focuses on running and are pioneers in this area. This same dude could feel amazing with some overpriced and fancy puma shoes and not get injured with them.
Like what we were talking with Leo a few challenges ago...... it's better to go with a specialist and get a GAIT analsys done to you to figure out your problems and be able to find the right shoes regardless of brands and fanciness.

I actually saw a guy running barefoot on the street one time last year, I noticed him running my opposite direction on the other side of the street, and a couple of minutes, I started running back and we crossed paths again, this time on the same side and the guy was running pretty fast, and I saw he had no shoes, and he was on the sidewalk, proper running gear, water bottle and everything, just no shoes, I couldn't believe it

just make a small incision on the top of your left foot and slide the nike+ thing in there, just like nature intended
- brandelec0
thinking about duct taping transponder and running bare feet

I love it when someone says that now, cause I can bring the article about the studies stating that all "functional running shoes" are just marketing gimmicks :)
"Dr Daniel Lieberman, professor of biological anthropology at Harvard University, has been studying the growing injury crisis in the developed world for some time and has come to a startling conclusion: ‘A lot of foot and knee injuries currently plaguing us are caused by people running with shoes that actually make our feet weak, cause us to over-pronate (ankle rotation) and give us knee problems."

Pango. Don't go to Payless Shoes. They have crappy ones.
But seriously you can buy ANY shoes. Nike+ shoes have a slot on the sole for the sensor, but there's also ways of using the sensor without the slot. You can buy a lil pouch (ebay, amazon, some running stores) for like 10 bucks that goes grabs to the laces of your shoes and that's it.
Check 5 posts above. Meeklo has been a long time Nike+ user with Nike+ shoes and he just bought some Asics. I started with the pouch as well before moving to real Nike+ shoes.

lol. Just did 8km but hadn't run in a long long long time.
Totally pathetic. Easily did like 3km walking. Couple dozen pauses. T-shirt felt smaller than last time.
I'm ready! :o(

and Asics!! yikes! at least they'll help with your pain.
Just be thankful you are not 15 anymore, otherwise other teens would beat the crap out of you if they see you on the street with those.
But hey, whatever needs to be done to get healthier is good.

I'm ready!
I got these fugly ass shoes to replace my previous ones, in hopes that I wont get hurt again if there is any chance it was the shoes. My general perception of all running shoes is that there ugly as hell, most of them have that gray mesh or look super loud, an equivalent of those people that love to put all this racing hardware to their honda civics, including custom painted tribal curls and shit like that.. why is that?
with the exception of the nike free and a couple of shoes by puma, most of them look like shit
- just run fast so no one will be able to see the shoes. lol.akrokdesign
- i love ascics. they're all i run in. I used to run in cool nikes and always got hurt.flutter
- really flutter? you bring hope to my feet, my last pair was nike too

if you guys are obsessed with training like I am, daily mile does a great job of tracking mileage, creating route and has a really nice social component to it. It doesn't replace what nike+ does (and doesn't have the nano to keep you honest), but its a nice addition if you want to keep track of cycle miles and fit training. Let me know if you're on there so we can buddy up.
http://www.dailymile.com- Just registered and logged with map my run. Is it different?Dancer

thanks for the heads up D. I'm injured right now, but I'll put in some miles for the slaves.
