They be tracking your creativenessness

that seems like a pointless purchase

Probably a smart purchase. They need to expand their capability. Flash and Photoshop won't be around forever. CS4 sales down 20% since the previous version.

here are some readable articles

When you make banner ad in flash / html, there shall be some back end linked code snip bit.
I think next smart move would be to do media buy also.
Creative -> connect -> media -> track reporting
- version30
quick recycle rates on the versions coming out and being replaced helped lead to that downfall in sales. i have cs3 and cs4 came out soon after, i wasn't about to even upgrade the master suite, cs3 does the work i need it to do.
i wouldn't doubt if adobe plans to further bloat their software with embedding tracking and reporting "features" of the software itself beyond those currently used in bugs and crashes but attempting to actively persure a market/legislation on software piracy, they have all the tools it takes right now. it's a matter of action
- no in the CNET article it says it's for measuring the impact of the content you createPupsipu

It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall at some Adobe meeting. They've got to be a little bit scared about Javascript so quickly replacing Flash-based websites and also with the possibility of web based app competing with their graphics tools a few years down the line.
- http://theflashblog.… talks about that, might reflect Adobe's attitude, "bring it on" he saysPupsipu

ukit, they're probably more concerned with the fact that there is so little accountability for all the Flash microsites clients are shelling out big money for.
Clients are starting to say "Wait, what exactly am I getting by spending $20k on a bunch of interactive panoramas of bottled tap water?"
Adobe is going to help them answer that and make the YourMajesty's of the world accountable, for better or worse.

what do omniture actually do?
- harlequino0
^Omniture is one of the primary company that provides tracking for online properties. For example - a brand launches a promotional site. Various Omniture proprietary tags are added to any clickable aspect of the site, tracking user activity and providing complete feedback for the client. It's huge goddamn money. Entire interactive campaigns and everyday advertising hinge on their reporting.

Adobe, Google & Microsoft (and *cough yahoo!) moving ever more together.
Apple just wants to be elsewhere. In the hardware.

In regard to flash websites,
We have full google analytics built into the ones we do including google event tracking. Can capture up to 100 different events per session I think, plus any other standard page based stuff etc.
It requires real development though..a proper cms driven flash site with SEO friendly guts and deeplinking. It is possible to measure the effectiveness etc, there just isn't the kind of tools available that you have for non-flash.

FINALLY exactly what we wanted
so much better than spending money on making Fireworks half decent

Uhm.... sounds interesting, at least on my side.
One of our clients uses Ominture as a tracking device and is quite a big pain in the ass to set it up.
Hopefully this will make things smoother.
