I'm looking for some examples / resources for footers and endnotes that are well designed / treated creatively.
I haven't found anything particularly promising from a google webscrape, so examples are welcome.
Thanks!

I wouldn't match the leading for sidebars and footnotes to the main text if I were you. It looks too loose. Tighten the leading of your marginalia so that every fifth line of a sidebar lines up with the closest line of your main text. There isn't a clear-cut equation for this, at least not that I'm aware of. I do know however that if your paragraph leading is set to 11.5, and the first baseline of your sidebars correspond to any baseline in your paragraphs, then your margin leading should be set to 8.62. Baseline grids are helpful here.
I might make your marginalia about a half point smaller too. 2–2.5 points in size difference is usually good.
- —I know the 11.5 > 8.62 bit because I just used this leading measure in a book.gramme

e.g. if your paragraphs are 9.5/11.5, then set the margins to 7/8.62.

(what's a marginalia???)alicetheblue - Marginalia = sidebars and footnotes. Stuff in the margins.gramme
- Could also include the folio, but not in this my examples.gramme
- I set my folios at the same type size as paragraphs. setting them smaller can look nice but hinders function.gramme
- ah ... I see.

Oh and for footnotes, I'd say just make them the full width of your paragraph column, or if there are a lot of footnotes, use two columns.

gramme - thank you!
I agree that the leading is too loose when using the same as body copy. I have been trying to calculate the footer/sidebar point size and leading based on percentages of my baseline. So using 8/11 my footer text is 25% smaller in than the body copy, making it 6/8.25. This keeps the text lining up on the baseline, but it still feels a little large. Will just have to keep playing with it!
